Ashlyn feels she has something to prove to the world, and her stepparents, Vivianne and Peter, want to show their support. Peter is more pragmatic, however, and stresses that she needs to find what she excels at and stick with that skill. When Ashlyn does not get cast after an audition, she is heartbroken. Peter is sympathetic but stern and uses his stepdaughter freely while giving her strong words of advice.
